Artist’s Statement

I have always been interested in the shape, colour and texture of everyday things.

An idea becomes a design when fabric pieces and fibres are combined with the smooth, flowing qualities of acrylic paint.... a contrast and interplay of smooth and rough surfaces.

Fabrics and fibers also add a slightly three dimensional surface to a composition. When I begin with a fabric background I then add smaller pieces on the surface. Sometimes I paint on the fabric as well.

If I use a canvas, I paint the background and then part of the design before adding fabric pieces on the surface with acrylic gloss gel.

I look for ideas and inspiration in the things and places that I see around me. Imagination and visual memories are also present in my work.
